How to crochet a magic ring (and why every amigurumi teddy bear starts with one)
The magic ring (or magic circle) is an adjustable loop that lets you start amigurumi with no hole in the middle.
Steps
- Wrap the yarn twice around two fingers, tail on the left.
- Insert the hook under both strands, pull up a loop, and chain 1 to lock it.
- Work 6 single crochet into the ring, over both strands.
- Pull the tail firmly: the ring closes completely.
- Place a stitch marker in the first stitch and keep going in a spiral.
Troubleshooting
If the ring will not close, you probably worked over only one strand. If it loosens later, weave the tail back through the first round in the opposite direction.
